Premier League club now “expecting” Celtic to sign £25,000-a-week defender
Celtic are now reportedly expected to secure Wilfried Nancy’s first signing in the form of a Premier League defender in the January transfer window.
Nancy insists Celtic will get "better"
Just when he thought he turned a corner in Scotland, Celtic’s trip to Motherwell burst Nancy’s bubble. The Frenchman was once again forced to answer some difficult questions after his side fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of their opponents in the Scottish Premiership and failed to take advantage of Hearts’ recent slip.
Nancy has won just two games since arriving, but insisted that Celtic will get better when speaking to reporters after defeat against Motherwell last night: “I’m confident with where we want to go. This was a tough game. But I think that we’re going to get better.”
“In terms of pressure, it doesn’t change the way I think about this because we know that we have to do well. But for the moment, this is the reality and I knew that it could be like that.
“It was a tough, tough night. We faced a good team, collectively really good. I knew that this could be a bit difficult because of the way they play and where we are at this moment.”

It doesn’t get any easier for the Bhoys, either. Up next they’re set to play host to Rangers in the Old Firm derby in what is beginning to feel like a make-or-break game for Nancy.
It’s a derby between two managers who have had such contrasting fortunes. Danny Rohl has very much steadied the ship at Ibrox at the perfect time whilst Nancy has seen more holes appear than ever before at Celtic Park.
Before that game, the former MLS manager could at least get the chance to welcome his first reinforcement in Scotland following recent reports.
Celtic expected to sign Julian Araujo
According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Bournemouth are “expecting” Celtic to sign Julian Araujo on loan in the January transfer window to potentially become Nancy’s first signing.
The former Barcelona defender is yet to make a Premier League appearance in the current campaign and desperately needs a move away from Bournemouth next month.

Celtic are seemingly well-placed to take full advantage and should hand the right-back the game time that he needs. Of course, as things stand, the right-back spot is up for grabs in Scotland after several players have failed to impress.
Whether it’s been Arne Engels, Anthony Railston or others, Nancy is yet to see a right-back nail that place down during the early days of his tenure. Araujo should, therefore, have quite the opportunity.
The £25,000-a-week Bournemouth man will be aiming to get his career back on track and prove exactly why he came through Barcelona’s academy.
